Can someone recommend me something based on this? (That's what I've read until now), I've bolded my top five. So rather suspense/action based Shonen or Seinen.... or something good this list totally lacks (except hentai or yaoi or such stuff).

I would repeat what I recommended Rashugun though I see the only ones missing from your list are 20th century boys, lucifer and the bh, Akira and kisswood(the last doesn't have much action or suspense).

I would add Sengoku Youko, Berserk, Basilisk, Yu Yu hakusho, Binbougami ga, 666 Satan, GTO, I am a hero, Zetman, Magico! MAR, Nurarihyon no mago, Shin Angyo onshi, The Breaker and ToG. I probably don't need to add Eyeshield 21.

The ones I highly recommend are highlighted.

Are these all the titles you have read till now, Oben?

First, based on your top 5

Hikaru no Go:  Kaiji series by Fukumoto Nobuyuki, Akagi by the same author, One Outs (i am no baseball fan, still loved this), Liar Game, Usogui

Dorohedoro: Berserk, Shingeki no Kyojin, Blame! and generally manga by Nihei Tsutomu, Battle Angel Alita, Akira

Pluto: pretty much all manga by Urasawa-sensei he is the master in mystery/suspense, Eden - It´s an endless world, Bokurano

HxH + OP is a bit harder because there are tons of shounen titles out there that do not come close to both titles´world-building:

I liked Ares, ID (the greatest fusion), Ruler of the Land, Superior, Ao no Exorcist, Psyren?, Legend of Maian, Shin Angyo Onshi

Other than the titles above which are among my favorites, i have some titles that, in my humble opinion, should be read by everyone interested in manga, at least for a couple of chapter to see if it´s to their taste:

Akumetsu, Kokou no Hito, manga by Inoue Takehiko, especially Slam Dunk and Vagabond, The Breaker, manga by Asano Inio, Sanctuary, Beck, GTO, manga by Yukimura Makoto, especially Vinland Saga.

Hmm, typical Shounen:

Mx0

Ares

Psyren

Immortal Regis

Mahou Sensei Negima

Kingdom (is published in a seinein magazine but still fits)

ID

Ratman (bit more unconventional)

Witch Hunter

Hikaru no Go (not conventional but addictive)

Shokugeki no Soma

Beck (if you like rock music)

The Legend of Maian

Gamaran

will try the bolded ones. thanks

吹っ飛ばせ,  断地風!

Futtobase, Tachikaze!

卍解! 鐡拳・断風!

Bankai! Tekken Tachikaze!

So, I am hoping someone can reccomend to me a non-traditional non-cliche Shoujo manga. Something that isn't about an average school girl somehow being surrounded by hot guys or a ojou-sama out of her comfort zone. Preferably one set not in a school. Something akin to, perhaps Skip Beat!. Any reccomendations for this most fussy of Manga readers

I just started reading manga and up until one week ago considered it to be something set aside for either the very nerdy or very Japanese.  I apologize for having such a close minded opinion.

Having grown up on cartoons, I am familiar with anime as well as video games.  So, I have some territory covered.  But manga is completely new to me in terms of actually reading it.  Which is why I have brought up the following topic of discussion.  Do you, and if so 'how' do you avoid the dark side of manga?

I picked up Fullmetal Alchemist for my first reading having known that it was a fairly popular manga.  But, I had no clue it would be as violent as it is nor that there would be so much depressing material in both the manga and anime.  This is what brings me to my question, is this kind of stuff avoidable?  I know that some people enjoy reading about people getting their heads chopped up and little girls being turned into chimeras, but I have to say it doesn't fit my style very much.

What type of manga should I focus on if I want to avoid the violence, obscenity, and overall gruesomeness?  Is there any possible way to do it, because I see a very bumpy road ahead if I stay on the same reading path that I'm headed down.  Ideally, I want to read something i can enjoy lightheartedly as well as collect as a hobby.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be a good read for me?  If so, thank you in advance.

Lastly, I am not down talking Fullmetal Alchemist.  I can see why the series has done so well and appreciate it for what it is.  But, I'm afraid I'll either turn into a blood thirsty otaku or end up not liking manga at all if I continue to read similar material.

I hope I didn't offend or bore anyone too much.  I could really use some help getting started in the right direction and maybe a few tips on how to become a manga fan (such as what to look out for etc).

Thanks,

-Ryan

I moved the thread you opened into this general manga recommendations thread.

Anyway, if you want a series that isn't too dark and more lighthearted/fun while still having an adventurous feel that Western cartoons have then you might like the manga Rave, or Rave Master is another name for it. I think that is a pretty good starting point for someone looking to get into manga that doesn't want anything too dark.

I'd say give one of the lighter shounen series like One Piece a go. Its popular for a reason, but being a battle manga, you cannot escape the violence, its a story about friends, comeradery and following ones drea. I think you might Also like the other two of the big three, but they are far more battle orientated than One Piece, so...

I would also reccomend highly Skip Beat!, a tale of one girls battle to overcome her tramas and failed relationship and struggling to get into the entertainment industry with a view of revenge on her ex. While it is a shoujo manga, targeted at girls and is heavily relationship based, it is not smutty in any real way.

Both have animes (one piece on funimation and skip beat on crunchyroll) that can be legally obtained if you want a general idea on what the series is like. But in both cases the Manga is way better. Gin no Saji (Silver Spoon) is a brilliant slice of life manga too which I would heartedly reccomend, but I don't think its avalible legally n North America yet... (edit - its not)

I am just gonna list the few shoujo i liked since those are mostly non-cliché anyway:

Dengeki Daisy

Basara

Tokyo Crazy Paradise

Natsume´s book of friends

Forest of the Fireflies

Hajimari no Niina

Orange (unfortunately, it´s on hiatus and i don´t think the mangaka plans to bring it back, so caution)

Oresama Teacher (it´s in school but definitely not cliché)

Immortal Rain

1/2 Prince

Taiyou no Ie

Banana Fish

Psychic Detective Yakumo

Ore Monogatari (unfortunately, only 4 chapters scanlated so far)

How to Make a Gentle World (this one is actually a shonen but has a shoujo feel to it)

There are many more of course but this should do it, my favorite one would be Dengeki Daisy i guess

If you want to try something that's not a "generetic" shonen (adventure, battle, etc) I'd recommend some slice of life manga like:

Bakuman

Yotsubato

Assassination Classroom

Silver Spoon

Or some sport series like:
Hajime no Ippo

Kuroko no Basket

Eyeshield 21

I personally like the bolded ones best.

Ive read Fairy Tail, Toriko, Berserk, Vagabond, Death Note, AoT, Claymore, HXH, KHR, Beelzebub, Hajime No Ippo, and Cage of Eden. I currently plan to read D. Grayman, Magi, and Kuroko No Basket, and, Air Gear.

If your willing to expand out of the Battle Manga genre, Bakuman and Gin no Saji are good Shounen manga.

How about Monster, Basilisk, Hellsing, Akira, Fullmetal Alchemist, Inuyasha and Soul Eater? They're all pretty popular and good reads, in my opinion.

I thought about Bakuman but I wasn't sure. I think I'll try it out! Thanks!

I heard of Hellsing and never got around to attempting Inuyasha. I read FMA, its amazing. I think I'll just watch the Soul Eater anime for now. I'll check some of those out though, thanks!

Can any kind soul recommend good manga similar to Trinity Seven and Tora Kiss? You know, action harem with cool protagonist?

‘Love and peace’ that’s the heart and soul of rock. No war, just peace. No war, just peace…
I’ve been thinking for a while, and violence isn’t going to solve anything. Let’s finally put our weapons down and sing for peace: that’s the way to go. If you don’t…

I’M GOING TO KILL EVERYBODY!!
Peace- Mr. Skull

Hmm, most protagonists in harem mangas and animes are kind of wimpy but i guess these titles could interest you:

Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou

Infinite Stratos

High School DxD

Denpa Kyoushi

Gamble Fish

Campione

Fujimura-kun Mates

Golden Boy

Dakara Boku wa H ga Dekinai (only romance without harem)

Mx0 (same as above)
