I really think we need more translations. The past two chapters feel like we're missing something important, and I don't know if it's the translations or Kubo's intention not to reveal something.

Editor Text: ペペの"愛"に支配され―――――――!! ---> "Ruled by Pepe's "love"―――――――!!"

PePe: はぁ・・・ ---> "Haa..." [Breathing sound]

PePe: 違うよ ---> "Wrong."
PePe: 戦いは ---> "All battles..."
PePe: すべて愛のために起こるんだヨネッ♡ ---> "...occur for the sake of love...♡"

http://puu.sh/bqJDf.jpg

PePe: 妻への愛 ---> "Love for a wife."
PePe: 子への愛 ---> "Love for a child."
PePe: 親への愛 ---> "Love for parents."
PePe: 友への愛 ---> "Love for a friend."
PePe: 主君への愛 ---> "Love for a master."
PePe: 神への愛 ---> "Love for God."

PePe: 信仰も愛 ---> "Religious faith is also love."
PePe: 信念も愛 ---> "Conviction is also love."

PePe: 物に対する執着さえも愛だ!!! ---> "Even attachment in response to things is love!!!"

PePe: だからこそ戦いは美しいんだヨネッ♡ ---> "For this reason, battles are beautiful...♡"

PePe: !
Byakuya: 演説は終わったか? ---> "Finished with your speech?"
Byakuya: 此方も終わった ---> "I finished, too."

Byakuya: 愛だ何だと騒いでいたが ---> "You were making a fuss about love, but..."
Byakuya: 要は人を意のままにする能力 ---> "...the cornerstone [of that] ability is to do [things?] to people, at will."

PN: Odd sentence, but the only verb there is "suru," meaning "to do" (する).

Byakuya: 操られた者を動けなくしてしまえばどうという事は無い ---> "If the manipulated person is made unable to move, it doesn't matter."

PN: The expression "doutoiukotowanai" (どうという事は無い) means "doesn't matter/no big deal/nothing special."

Byakuya: そして ---> "And..."
Byakuya: その手合いは全て ---> "In all of those cases..."
Byakuya: 術者を斬りさえすれば傀儡の糸は絶ち切れる ---> "...the puppet threads will sever if the practitioner is cut."

Byakuya: !?
PePe: ・・・知ってるヨッ♡ ---> "I know...♡"
PePe: 斬魄刀には"心"がある ---> "Zanpakutou have "hearts"."

http://puu.sh/bqLcU.jpg

PePe: だからミーは ---> "So me..."
PePe: 前回の戦いでキミ達から卍解を頂かなかった ---> "...didn't receive any bankai from you guys during the battles, last time."

PN: Yes, I know that's poor English. That's how the guy talks.

PePe: だってミーには"愛"がある ---> "But because me has "love"..."
PePe: "心"ある斬魄刀なんていつでも奪えるモノだから♡ ---> "...me can rob things like zanpakutou that have hearts, any time...♡"

PN: Take lightly, but the phrase "nante" (なんて) has a connotation of contempt or disgust from the speaker regarding the thing or topic that he/she is discussing. Here, it's used right after "zanpakutou" (斬魄刀なんて) which suggests PePe has negative feelings towards them.

http://puu.sh/bqLuW.jpg

PePe: 愛の力は偉大ヨッ♡ ---> "The power of love is great...♡"
PePe: どんな攻撃を受けても立ち上がり ---> "Even when receiving any attack..."
PePe: 愛のために目的を果そうとする ---> "...one will try to accomplish their purpose for the sake of love."
PePe: 困難を乗り越える為に愛はすッごく重要なんだヨネッ♡ ---> "Love is very important for the sake of surmounting difficulties...♡"

http://puu.sh/bqMbx.jpg

Byakuya: ・・・流石に斬魄刀に白打で対応するのは限界があるか・・・
"...As expected, there's a limit to keeping up with a zanpakutou using hakuda...?"
Byakuya: だが鬼道を使えば檜佐木を死なせてしまうかも知れぬ・・・
"But, if I use kidou, it may cause Hisagi to die..."

PN: The verb isn't "to kill" as in other translations, it's "[to let] die" followed by "may/might."

Byakuya: 操られたのが自分の腕なら吹き飛ばせば済んだものを―――
"If my own arm had been manipulated, I could have settled with blowing it off―――"

PN: 済んだ ("sunda") comes from the verb "sumu," in this case meaning, "to do with something less severe than earlier expected/anticipated" and basically translates as, "to do with/to manage/to settle/to receive minor consequences."

Byakuya: 千本桜を折ることをためらって手放すなど浅慮だった――――・・・
"It was imprudent to hesitate instead of breaking Senbonzakura――――..."

Byakuya: !

PePe: そんなの絶対に ---> "A thing like that..."
PePe: 許せないモ~~~~ン♡ ---> "is absolutely unforgivable~♡"

PN: Ugh, reverse Yammy. Instead of going batshit with anger shouting "UNFORGIVABLE," this guy goes batshit with love.

Yup. It means "nonexistent" in a general sense.

I always understood it to be the negative of da which is the casual of aru. Or have the textbooks steered me into another generally accepted falsehood? [mad]

Plus I don't think I've seen da, aru (and until now) nai in anything but hiragana.

The key distinction is that "nai" is one of those "-i inflection" adjectives, whereas "aru" and "da" are straightforward verbs ("aru" having more meanings such as "to exist" or "to have" while "da" is the more common contraction of "aru," "to be"). "Nai" is the negative form of something, which is why the best way (in my view) to understand the phrase on its own would be to think of it as meaning, "nonexistent."

知らない
Shiranai
"Don't know/[An] unknown."
["shiru"/知る = "to know" (verb) + "ra" = imperfective (particle) + "nai" = negative (adjective).]

Kensei: あがっ・・・ ががあ・・・・・・ ---> "Agah... Gagaah..."
Mayuri: そう燥がないでくれ給えヨ ---> "Really, please don't dry out/be in high spirits."

PN: I'm guessing that's an intentional pun giving Mayuri's propensity for double-speak and mockery. It's difficult to translate, as the 燥 kanji is normally pronounced as "kawaku" and is an alternate way of writing 乾く ("to be dry") or 渇く (more specifically, "to be thirsty"). However, the pronunciation here is "hasha," which comes from "hashagu" (燥ぐ), an intransitive verb meaning either "to frolic/be in high spirits," or alternatively, "to dry out." The 燥 kanji is used in a compound pronounced "kansou," which is "dehydration/aridity" (can be a noun or turned into a verb). As Kensei appeared to be gasping or trying to say something, that seems to be why Mayuri chose those words.

Mayuri: 直ぐに ---> "Because..."

Mayuri: 霊圧が高ければ侵入した血液が心臓で増殖し全身に行き渡ってようやくゾンビ化する ---> "...if the reiatsu is high, to do zombification, the blood that penetrated [the body] has to propagate in the heart and gradually pervade throughout the whole body."

Mayuri: 隊長格の肌が赤黒く濁っているのはそのためだ ---> "For that reason, the captain-ranks' skin becomes a dull, dark red*."

PN: 赤黒く ("akaguroku") is basically "red" + "black/to blacken," so it's a "dark red" or "blackened-red/blackish-red."

Giselle: ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・

PePe: へへえ~~~~~~~~~・・・ ---> "Heheh~..."

PePe: 前にジジのゾンビをミーのトリコにしてやったことも ---> "I've also made Gigi's zombies into my prisoners*, before."

PN: The phrase "toriko" (トリコ) is written out in katakana, so the kanji is anyone's guess. Three of them (俘, 虜, 擒) essentially mean the same thing in noun form, that is, someone who is a "prisoner/captive/slave to one's emotions." The first kanji is more specific as a noun though, and can refer to a "prisoner of war," while the other two are usually verbs meaning "to capture/seize/imprison."

"Passion(ate) Writing", maybe? From what I can find...

熱 Heat, Temperature, Fever, Mania, Zeal, Enthusiasm, Passion
筆 Writing brush, Writing, Painting brush, Handwriting

Would at least make some sense...

Possibly, but I've learned "passionate" as "gekitouteki" (激情的; "passion" is 激情; "gekitou"). If I had to guess, it's either slang, or an outdated compound. I know that 熱い ("atsui") can mean "passionate," but in the sense of "romantic love/love between a couple."

PN: I disagree with how MS and MP translated it. There aren't any kanji after "Ishida-kun" (and the subject marker), it's just "itanda yo ne," the verb for which I'm led to believe is "itamu" (the "itandu" would be the perfective). I suppose there's a reason why Kubo wrote it without kanji. The phrase "itamu" when written as 痛む means "to hurt/feel pain." It also means "to be injured" when used in a different context. Another way of representing "itamu" is by writing 傷む, which means "to be damaged/go bad/be worn out" but it can be used as an alternative to the above, 痛む. The adjective, 痛い ("itai"), means "painful." The verb "to mourn/grieve" is also pronounced "itamu," but written as 悼む.

Ichigo: ついでだけどな! ---> "...it's an opportunity [we'll take], but!*"
Orihime: ―――そうだね! ---> "―――That's right!"

PN: A sentence ending with "kedo" (けど) or "dakedo" retains the usual "but/however" meaning, but it leaves the speaker's following words to be implied. Perhaps intentionally done, as Orihime answers him anyway, and as Ichigo's face is hidden from the reader.

Out of curiosity, why do you suppose MS/MP translated the way they did?

-----

On the subject of Shutara and Weizol's conversation, your translation makes it very odd that Shutara could do what she did to Weizol. If he's 'finding an enemy by instinct' his instincts must tell him that Shutara is an enemy, otherwise there's something terribly wrong with his instincts, or something about Shutara's power that we haven't yet been told (not that we've been told much at all). Or, he's not as defeated as he appears to be at the end of this chapter (not that I've been willing to claim he's defeated yet anyway).

PlasmaWolf, could you please translate the section of the chapter revealing the most recent Quincy?  I do not believe the translations were wrong on here after looking at the Kanji, so why are they called "Stern Lichter" (Star Lights) - with Askin describing himself as from the LOWER RANKS - instead of Stern Ritter?

Out of curiosity, why do you suppose MS/MP translated the way they did?

Well, I noticed that some of the lines in the chapter were identical in both translations, such as what Orihime said on that page. "...And Ishida-kun was still with us." I'm not going to accuse MS of plagiarizing, but their translation of Orihime's words was verbatim to MP's.

As for the actual words, I didn't see anything in the raws that pointed towards "being with [someone]," as that would be "issho ni" (一緒に), which means "to be together/to be with." If one were to remove the "ni" and write "issho," that would either be an adjectival noun meaning "combined/unified," or "combination" as a straightforward noun. There also wasn't anything identifying the use of the word "still," which is "mada." Taking the utterance, "ita," which appeared to be the form of a verb in Orihime's last sentence, the only other verb I could see using that tense would be the past of "iru," which is "to be/to have/to exist." Alternatively, Orihime may have been saying, "...Ishida-kun was here."

I made two small mistakes in my translation, however.

1. It should have been, "...Ishida-kun was..." instead of "...is," which leads into the next correction...

2. I forgot to mention that "itanda" is more specifically the past indicative, plain form of "itamu" (the three possible compounds, 傷む, 痛む, and 悼む all have identical or nearly-identical stems, which is why I'm inclined to believe that Kubo deliberately didn't use any kanji).

I think you raise interesting point.

Spoiler

Notice the first two word bubbles in the second panel, and how they include the use of quotation marks. The characters are mostly the same, with the second sentence adding the phrase "honnou" (本能), followed by the particle, "de" (で; "with instinct"). The phrase "honnou" means "instinct," which is comprised of the individual kanji for "root/source" or (as a noun) "book" (本) and "ability/capacity" (能).

In those two word bubbles, Nianzol literally says (removing the quotations for a moment), "Having found an enemy is having found an enemy with instinct." The third word bubble in that panel has him repeating the word "enemy" twice, once right before the topic marker (は), and once immediately after it. The らろ ("raro") is a mispronunciation (because of his lisp) of "daro" (だろ), which is added to a sentence indicating, "seems/probably/wonder." Therefore: 見えてなくても敵は敵だろ is literally, "Probably an enemy, even without seeing an enemy."

Stern Lichter was a mistranslation, and I'd need the raws to translate anything else.

Shutara was confirmed female during her first appearance. She uses "warawa," an archaic, feminine pronoun.

It's a badge of honor! Wear it proudly, man.

In the previous chapter, Bach calls the elite Sternritter "shineitai" (親衛隊), which are "monarch's guards" or "imperial guards." The special protection squadron known as "Schutzstaffel" (abbreviated as "SS") that was tasked with being the internal security force of Nazi Germany is referred to by those same kanji. The kanji also mean "fanatics/groupies/ardent followers."

Doesn't Urahara use "atashi", aka the sweetheart pronoun?

I thought that was "anata". AFAIK, Atashi is the female version of watashi. Watashi means "I".

Plasma-kun may have to straighten this out.

Yes, and "atashi" is more particularly used by girls and young women. It goes hand in hand with his ebullient demeanor and self-proclaimed status as the humble owner of a small-time candy shop. To clarify a vague post from earlier, I wasn't saying that Shutara using a feminine pronoun like "warawa" automatically concludes the character is female; personal pronouns refer to gender identification and have nothing to do with sex, a distinction I've made many times. The point is that nothing in the manga has questioned the nature of Shutara's sex.

An ambiguous translation from a group known for making errors in the past doesn't prove the character is male or a trap.

Yes, of course, I concur completely on that last point, but I was surprised because to me it sounded like you meant "warawa" was a definite proof of her feminity. I apologize for misunderstanding you, then.

Ah, Japanese pronouns. When I started learning I used boku until my tutor told me whenever Japanese people hear foreigner female use boku they mostly think those foreigners don't know the difference.

UPD: I made the most hilarious type, yay me

Pretty much. "Anata" is the gender-neutral, second-person pronoun used for "you."

Urahara uses both "anata" and "atashi."

Anata is mostly "you"?

Kisuke's atashi is particularly hilarious to me because all the times I've ever heard it used it was from young women specifically using it to sound extra-cute (although of course my humble skills in Japanese do not allow me to read original manga so for all I know half of my fave muscled barbarian characters use it).

@TheBerylfly - anata is mostly "you". But it's also used between a couple in terms of, "my dear" or "hey, dear", or even "sweetheart". I've never come across "atashi" being used in a way other than "I" (for females). Well you learn something new everyday.

Ahh, wait, i figured out what the misunderstanding between us were. I meant the "sweetheart pronoun" in a sense it's used by sweetie girls playing up Japanese love for cuteness, but you thought I had meant it literally as meaning sweetheart. And I, in turn, thought you meant anata was used as pronoun.

... at least I think that's how it went down.

PN: Likely referring to himself as "this guy" in the third person, since "koitsu" is generally rude.

Gerard: そうだな! ---> "That's right!"
Gerard: 貴様が役に立たん様なら ---> "If you appear useless..."
Gerard: 我が貴様を斬って捨てるぞ! ---> "...I'll cut you down!"

Shutara: !
Gerard: 女の細腕で ---> "As if those slender arms..."
Gerard: 我の剣を止められるものか! ---> "...are able to stop my sword!?"

PN: Sentence-ending "monoka," forming a question in which the speaker believes the opposite is true.

Shutara: !!
Lille: 今 ---> "Just now..."
Lille:「霊王宮落ちるかも知れない」と思ったか? ---> "...is "[The] Soul King Palace might fall" what you thought?"
Lille: 遅いよ ---> "Too slow."

PN: 遅い "osoi" is an adjective that can mean either "slow" or "late." Its antonym, "hayai" can translate to either "fast" or "early," but has a distinction of character used (早い for "early," 速い for "fast"). "Osoi" used to have 遲い as an alternative for "late," but it's now outdated.

Lille: 霊王宮はもう落ちてたのさ ---> "...the Soul King Palace had already fallen."

Editor Text: 崩れ去る・・・!! ---> "Crumbling away...!!"

Sound Effects

First panel: ボキュン ("bokyun"). It comes from "kyunkyun," a sound meaning "squeeze" or "[becoming] tighter and tighter."
Second panel: ボキュ ("bokyu"), ボキュ ("bokyu"), ペキ ("peki"), ゴリュ ("goryu"), ゴギ ("gogi"), ゴチュ ("gochu"). In English, "squeeze" ---> "squeeze" ---> "crackle/grind" ---> "scrape (not too sure of this one)" ---> "break/snap [i.e. of bones]" ---> "shuffling a pile/clutter."
Third panel: ゴロン ("goron") ---> "rolling over/rolling around."
