Hello Misty; time for questions!

1) What is the meaning of life?

2) What is your favorite colour, and why is it your favorate colour?

3) You are walking down the street, and suddenly you see a briefcase in a side alley. You look at it carefully, noticing a number of 100 (insert your currency) bills poking out of the container. Investigating closer, you find there are bloody hand prints on the briefcase. What will you do?

4) You are walking down the street, and suddenly, you are hungry! Alas, you are too far away from home to go home and get something to eat. All you have in your pocket is 20$ (or the equivelent). What would you buy to eat?

5) You are walking down the street, and suddenly, you find a arabic style lamp. Thinking "This might be worth something" you pick it up, and polish the lamp, after all, its all dusty and such. Hark, a Djinn arrives, "Thank you, dear Misty from rescuing me from that lamp; Before I go off and destroy the world as punishment for being locked in this lamp for the past 3000 years, I will grant you three wishes! What will they be?"

Spoiler

1.  That's pretty easy actually. My older brother and I are a year apart and were both homeschooled until high school when we entered cyber school.  My little brother came along when we were 11 and 12.  So we had to like move into a new house and both our parents were working full-time so they basically left us all home in this big house alone during the day for three months until life stopped being so insane.  So we took over this room with a Victorian, vomit pink couch to play video games in and without parental supervision (except at night) played Guardian Heroes for every waking moment they weren't around (so like 12ish hours) on that couch with our little brother in like a baby carrier next to us. We didn't even stop for lunch, we'd just play with one hand and then feed the little guy with the other.  It seems pretty dumb in retrospect, but it was an awesome couple of months in which we bonded pretty hard.

2.  Golly, what a question. I guess I'd say it depends on the individual and what environmental factors they are dealing with.  (Obviously a horrific experience would seem to be more shaping in an individual than perhaps a very average, banal environment).  I think environments are pretty shaping to most individuals unless they happen to possess character traits of endurance or rebellion naturally.  Despite that, I do think many personality traits are inherent and would be rather difficult to shape away via environment.  As for the combination of both, it very much fits my post-modern paradigm of answering "it is both" to most questions.

3.  Aristotle, Kant, Coleridge.  I think I want to get their opinions on Post-Modern Literary Theory, make them each read my poetry and get criticisms, and really I just want to listen to them each talk and argue.  Hopefully I say almost nothing the whole dinner.

4.  Well, I'm not very mathematical, so to me time has always seemed very relative and imagined.  But I recognize logically time is passing the same for me as everyone.  I think someday anything could be possible, although maybe I've just seen too much Star Trek.  I'm not totally certain what you mean with your entropy question, but if you are asking me do I think lack of order or predictability is relative, then yes, I do.

5.  Overrated: Coffee.  You're all fucking drug addicts who forced yourselves to be drug addicts so you could fit in with society. But coffee does not taste good and if you have to pour sugar and milk into something to fix it, probably that something isn't stellar.

Underrated: Graphic Novels/Comics.  Seriously, the amount of people who don't take comics seriously is disheartening.  If I met one more professor who thought I was insane for thinking comics have literary merit, I was going to behead the chair of our department.

1. Favorite movie

2. top five Favorite character of any medium?

1.  Glengarry Glen Ross. No Contest.

2.  (in no particular order)

1. Holo (spice and wolf)

2.  Shinji Ikari

3.  Izaya Orihara

4.  Jimmy McNulty

5.  Tony Soprano

1. Will you read eternal on the road to Valhalla, shiny and chrome?

I have no idea what this is. But if you link me it, I will dramatic read the crap out of it for you.

Also, everyone is free to ask as many questions as they like, I'm unemployed and have plenty of time.

1b. If you have none, tell me your favorite main course dish.

1c. If you like to answer both, great!

2. When you decide something, how much is based on reason and how much is emotion? Any other factor(s) influences your decision?

3. Why do you like Izaya Orihara (the more essay-ish the better. Awesomeness is never enough) and if you can meet him in real life, what would you do?

4. Your moral and ethical view on the current treatment of crime by law in your country, your level of tolerance regarding those crimes and your opinion on personal revenge? Coffee has merit! D:

4. Favorite genre of novel? Anything to recommend?

5. What's your most liked/most disliked genre of music?

After 12 steps, you can come back and apologize to me for saying that about coffee.

4.  Oh gosh!  Well I'm a huge fan of Victorian literature and really Victorian anything.  It can be super terrible but if it is set in Victorian London I'll give it a whirl and be happy.  If you haven't read Frankenstein you probably should like immediately.  Oscar Wilde is always lovely (Importance of Being Earnest is a hoot.)  Middlemarch still blows my mind when I read it.  If you like poetry Tennyson is pretty awesome and relevant.  And if plays are your thing you pretty much cannot beat anything by Shaw.

I also am a huge fan of creative non-fiction.  For a good intro to that I suggest A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (Eggers), Lying (Slater), and The Electric Koolaid Acid Test.

My final favourite area is Post Modern lit.  Which is so difficult to recommend, but I absolutely adore DFW (Try Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, it is lovely and you'll probably identify with something in there). I just finished Inherent Vice by Pynchon and it is a riot from start to finish.

Ok, I'll stop, but I could probably go on forever.

5.  I love punk music bar none. Even taylor swift isn't as important to me as punk music.  Most disliked is country.  I'm not a huge fan of rap, but at least Eminem is brilliant and it leads to interesting conversations about marginalized populations. Country is stupid music for stupid people reflecting a pigheaded stubborn love of the "good ole" days.

What comic book series is your favourite?

The weather has been really rainy and muggy lately.  I love rain, but I hate the humidity.  So the weather is pretty alright.

#AndroidnamedSamsung.  Iphones are for people who want less options or to fit in.

I tend to think of myself as not very fly, but strangely I've always been treated like I'm super rad.

According to my friends, I have two modes of dress.  One is like pretty average laid back elegance: which apparently means they find my absurd pairing of yoga pants with button downs classy and comfortable looking.  Or my jeans and a t-shirt prim.   The other...and there is no normal way to explain this, is like punk princess fairy.  Which basically is made up of dark dresses, combat boots, and dark eyeliner with some sort of neon eyeshadow.  And it is truly a toss up which version of me you get that day. I don't even know until I'm dressing myself.

If I had to pick a favourite part of the above, I love me some combat boots.  They're the best.

Favourite Word:  Lovely

Favourite Phrases:  That's Ludicrous!  The Game Be The Game

Tea is awesome. I love tea. I have  professors who makes me tea each time I visit their house and I love it. I discovered it pretty recently and I can see it making dating easier since now I don't have to say to the poor guy "I don't like coffee, coffee is gross...but I'd love to just hang out while you drink disgusting coffee".

Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade or Shinobu Oshino from Bakemonogatari.  If you've seen the anime and know me at all, you'll realize we're basically the same person.

I do not understand the wrist question.  I mean I played league of legends for four years, so on my right hand at least it is probably brittle and like that of an 80 year old.

Yes, of course. She's really the only pop artist I have devoted myself to. I sorta enjoy Katy Perry, but I would never want to see her in concert or buy more than a few songs.  Lady Gaga used to be a close second before her music became bad.

I have not, I'm super sad about that.  I really wish I'd seen her Speak Now or Red Tour. Red especially.  Maybe I'll go see the next one.  My problem is that until this year I never found anyone who would go with me and enjoy it.

Probably Feminism. Mostly because I enjoy (in an unhealthy way) the moment at which I corner your average feminist into arguing that rape isn't rape if it happens to the prison population because they deserve it.  I can usually die happy at that moment. Especially if it is in person and I can see the look on their face as they say that.

Knights of the Dinner Table is probably my long-time favourite.  If we're talking super heroes, I loved Old Man Logan and House of M a super lot.   Big fan of the Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men.  From DC, Suicide Squad and Gotham Sirens was always really fun.  I also enjoyed Birds of Prey and the Cassandra Cain Batgirl a lot.  Batman Halloween was really neat.  During the death of Batman and battle for the cowl arc I was really into current Batman stuff.  Especially the guest artists and writers who all got to do their "I killed Batman" short stories.  And I'd be remiss to my younger self if I didn't mention the Archie Universe which I adored.

1. Guilty pleasure(s)?

I mean which crime you think should have lighter punishment (including no punishment) and which should have heavier punishment (even death penalty) or may be just...different punishment, based on your personal standard.

5. So which manga that you have read has enough literary merit and also entertainment and rereading values that can be compared to famous works in other mediums?

1.  Pure sugar candy: So like lollipops, bubble gum, gummi bears, gummi anything, lifesavers, swedish fish, peach rings.  Oh man, I can sit with a bag of peach rings and just gobble them up.

Milk. I know it seems weird for milk to be a guilty pleasure, but I have an iron deficiency from drinking so much milk.

Chicken Nuggets with BBQ sauce. I'm like a five year old about this.  I love it so much I get giddy eating them. It is a sacred moment when I sit down in front of my television to watch anime with chicken nuggets and bbq sauce.

1b.  My favourite main course dish is probably teriyaki chicken with rice and some broccoli.  Or Chicken Alfredo Pasta.

2.  Well, I mean other influences include how important the decision is and how intense my mood is when I'm being asked to make the decision.  It also depends on if the decision includes my friends or family (I get a little intense about that sort of thing).  It also depends on the emotion I could be listening to. I tend not to listen too much to emotions of sorrow or joy.  But my anger is unfortunately really cold and calculated so it brings out hyper rationalism.  In general I guess I lean towards rationality over emotion, but I'm not consistent and it really depends.  A lot of friends tell me that I seem mildly sociopathic compared to them because when they get angry they cannot express themselves, where as I go into a corner and stew for two hours and come back primed to express myself so well the other person feels dehumanized and stupid for the rest of their life.

If we're talking big life choices, I'm almost entirely rational about them even to a fault.

3.  OH WELLLLL! I think it is because I identify quite a lot with his character.  Not only does he dress basically how I dress on a usual day, but I think I feel the way he does about humans in general.  They amuse the crap out of me and as actors in a play, I'm always fascinated by them. But at the same time, I feel very removed from them and not in a high and mighty way, just like compared to them I don't belong in the drama taking place, I belong writing the drama they're going to play out.  And I think like him, it isn't meant to be a mean or cruel thing, it's totally driven by curiosity and love.  I almost entirely agree with the quote in my signature although I find most people tedious.

He's also the ultimate troll, and although I don't generally let my troll side out on the internet, I am a huge troll irl.  He's also occupying a world I want to occupy which is pretty much reality with a slight fantasy bent.  His job as an information broker seems really enjoyable at least from my standpoint.  If I could meet him in real life, I would probably try to marry him or work for him.  He's that cool.

4.  At this point I find our treatment reprehensible. We aren't trying to rehabilitate, we're trying to punish and as I know very well from being a child, the "go to your room and think about what you did approach" wrought zero changes on my chance to do something again.  Teaching me why not to do something had a much better shot.  So many of the crimes are given sentences that are WAY too long.   The fact we still have the death penalty in some states is pretty appalling.  Privatized prisons are so unethical and ridiculous that I truly cannot believe they exist sometimes.   We're still rarely accounting for mental illness or the pressures of poverty.

As for tolerance of crimes, anything drug-related should probably be little more than a wrist slap.  Violence of any kind needs to be stopped, but with an eye on rehabilitation.  White collar crime needs to be knee-capped and punished so badly that nobody ever wants to risk it.  That's the one area where the only real explanation is human greed and I don't tend to think you can rehabilitate people around that.

Personal revenge isn't really the best option because humans always think they've been hurt far worse than they were actually hurt.

5.  Well, I don't really read manga too often. But I read Ulysses in manga form and I think that had a lot of literary merit.  (hur hur I'm so clever and funny.)

No, but seriously.  Neon Genesis Evangelion's manga is really worthy of literary consideration.  The anime too.  It is seriously brilliant.

Oh gosh! Well I'm a huge fan of Victorian literature and really Victorian anything. It can be super terrible but if it is set in Victorian London I'll give it a whirl and be happy.

Have you read the manga Emma?

But is there any (specific) situation it should be permitted in your opinion? And if it is permitted by law, how do people...like, know what is an appropriate/equivalent punishment to the crime they suffer from?

I have not. Like I said, not a big manga reader.  Not for any particular reason, it just isn't readily available most of the time.

I cannot think of scenarios which would permit it, although the Punisher has a pretty strong case.  And that's really the problem right there.  You couldn't easily make something appropriate because people aren't alike.  If I steal a candy bar it isn't the same as if the homeless guy who lives on main ave does.  If I beat someone up it isn't the same as if the thug down the street does.  I mean you can get it nearly equivalent, but it isn't really possible to account for the contextual differences between each person.  Most people, given the option, would not deal drugs or be violent towards others in ways that require the judicial system. I feel like Louis C.K. says this best when talking about hitting children for parenting.  He doesn't, his mum did. The difference between them is that he's wealthy and his mum is poor.  That difference alone can explain so much and there are other contexts like it.

Nuuuu! We said we wouldn't talk about it, let alone publish it on deviant art with pictures.

1.  Well, this might not be strange, but most of the elements of my personality that I like, I also dislike.  Like for example, I like that I'm very passionate about  bloody near everything, but I also dislike this element because it makes living very exhausting with most people not caring or disliking it if others care about things at all.  I've also found other people find my annoying or exhausting because I'm so passionate.  I don't know if it makes them feel bad or if they've simply bought into the culture of being apathetic, but it makes finding friends really difficult.

I like that I'm very critical, but it can be a chore to be around others because STRANGELY most people don't like hyper critical people.  I personally think it is because something about hyper critical people makes others think they believe they themselves walk on water, when the reality is that I have to live with being hyper critical of myself all day every day and I never meet my own expectations.

I like that I think I have excellent taste in art, but once again this can be really tiring for trying to interact with my fellow man because I try to watch or read the things they do and I just can't.  It just seems so stupid and irrelevant to me.  But I really wish I could sometimes because I get lonely with being the only one doing ma things.   And even when I do come down from the pretentious mountain where my ivory tower is located to enjoy things that I know are terrible and stupid, because I've spent so much time railing about how dumb most media is, people won't just let me enjoy Black Butler or Taylor Swift, they have to give me shit about it and make me defend it. Which I cannot do because I basically know that those things aren't worthy of attention and I'm simply enjoying them because I'm glad to enjoy something that isn't exhausting to enjoy.

I like that I'm a really loving person, but then I end up in this doubt spiral of wondering if I just love watching myself love other people.  I've also lost a lot of people because they get sick and tired of being supported and loved.  And because it makes it difficult for me to selfishly choose what would make me happy over what would make them happy.

I like that I'm really confident in myself and I guess I cannot think of a way that I feel negatively about that.

I like that in the moment I don't generally care what people think about anything but I'm still capable of looking back after the fact to think about what they were feeling.

I guess one thing I just outright hate is that I have a temper that I have a hard time controlling and I'm so good at reading other people's weaknesses that I'll immediately go straight for the throat given the proper amount of anger.  I wish I didn't do that and I try not to.

I like that I value truth, but sometimes I think I value it too highly.

I like that I'm intelligent, but I think I use that as an excuse to be an asshole to people who I perceive as less intelligent.

I think that's like about a fourth of the neurotic mess that makes me up.

2.  Longest relationship was a year and six months.  I'm just going to imagine you want me to tell you a little more about that.  So I'd known him since I was seventeen and he was twenty-one.  We were long-time league of legends buddies.  (I lacked a job and he gamed on the job so we basically spent 8 hours a day together playing that stupid game).  This went on for about six months.  He asked me out right before I turned 18. My parents didn't like it because he was older, so there was a whole song and dance about him meeting them and us not properly dating until I was 18.  It was really nice for the first two months.

We broke up because he was super controlling, overly-attached, and jealous.  I know girls say that all the time.  So I feel the need to say that he saw me every day, we talked all the time we weren't together (besides all the gaming we did together), and when I would say I wanted to talk to a friend and not him for a little he'd get moody or jealous.  Especially if that someone was a guy (even though he'd known since day one that I primarily had guy friends and wouldn't have stayed with him if I didn't want to).  He wanted to know what was said in those conversations he wasn't apart of.  Even if it were me and my girlfriends talking he'd get pushy to know what we talked about.  He kept talking about getting married or living together even after we'd only been together a year.

It didn't help that for the latter half of our relationship I was unaware I had an iron deficiency so my body was shutting down. I finally found out I did when I got really sick with a bladder infection, the flu, and this thing.  I was in college during final papers at the time and I told him I needed to take a week off of being with him all the time so I could rest and work on my papers.  He refused to stop texting me or, after I shut my phone off, popping by my house.

It didn't help that at the time our league team was having issue.  I was really close friends with our group leader (a guy) and the guy was pissed off at me because he felt I'd abandoned him for other players.  I hadn't, but I was really upset he wasn't talking to me.  During one of our more heated arguments, my boyfriend decided to throw this in my face with some line about me not caring about anyone and abandoning anyone that disagreed with me.

Needless to say, we broke up.  There was a little while we thought about getting back together, but that ended when he left me hanging for two weeks and didn't return my calls.  He ended up telling me it was because he was busy with his best friend.

3.  Oh yes.  I chew my cuticles all the time, especially if I'm anxious or nervous.  I used to chew ice compulsively when I had my iron deficiency.  When I'm talking, I need to have something in my hands to play with or I get bored and forgetful.  I like to sleep with three blankets over my head.  When I'm annoyed or angry, I apparently tap my foot up and down/wiggle my leg.  When people I really like in any way enter the room, I have what my father calls my "kitty stretch" where I raise one arm straight in the air and stretch to the side while scratching my armpit.  When I'm alone, I make little sound effects while I'm doing various tasks.  I'll eat chapstick straight up simply by applying to my lips compulsively.  And I need a fan on in order to sleep.  I chew my lips if I'm nervous.  Oh, and I'm super prissy about eggs and food in general. Like I won't eat any part that is at all uncooked looking and I don't like the plasticish outer edges on eggs that are crusty.

4.  I'm super vain about my hair.  I think I have a really beautiful face in general.  I like my weirdo thick eyebrows a lot especially because they are expressive.

I don't really like my height or weight mostly because I've encountered a lot of guys who find super small, petite girls to be ugly in the body area.  Also clothing shopping is a nightmare.

I feel a little bad about my legs simply because they don't straighten so I walk funny.  But I mean even all the negatives I feel about these things are pretty rare.  It has to be a bad mood morning, and I have to catch the mirror just right, and then yeah I'll feel a little bad.  But not super bad. Just "awww, I wish this were different".  Otherwise, I'm really happy with my body and tend to think I'm super kawaii.

5.  Well my first impression was "how did that guy get his emotes like that and I hope I can figure out how to do that too! He must be super creative and cool because his emotes are!"  And now I really respect you as being swell, charming, and funny. You are creative and cool like I thought.  I sometimes wonder what you're like behind the persona you've built up, but then I wonder if maybe the persona is the real Joe.
