Is it good or is it bad?
Well for me it's "okay or so/so". Has it's moments, sure. But overall, just so/so.
Others will and do feel differently. Though that's nothing unusual.
Best thing to do is just go with what you think about it. You say it makes you feel weird? Well then why does it make you feel weird? Ask yourself that, and then come to the answer that not only tells you why you feel that way about it but also how the series itself is too you.
^Pretty much this. It's nothing ground breaking as far as storytelling is concerned. But damn if it doesn't have its charm. The kind of charm that keeps you coming back for more even though you know there's better stuff out there. I call it the Fairy Tail effect.
It's a definitely a unique story, while at the same time using every single shounen trope you can think of (whether that's a good or bad thing is subjective). The characters are all likable, even the villains. The animation is usually so-so, but the fight scenes are almost always fucking BEAUTIFUL. Seriously, it's poetry in motion. Especially in the first two seasons when Monty and Shane were around (and while the fight scenes may not be as great in Volume 4, they've still REALLY stepped their game up in every other aspect).
Basically, don't go in expecting some kind of philosophical masterpiece. It's your typical fantasy shounen with a few unique twists and turns. But, again, that's not necessarily a bad thing. What it lacks in any real depth, it makes up for in just being incredibly fun to watch, having characters that you can't help but care about, and fight choreography that should be winning Rooster Teeth awards.
