How does one get the degree symbol to show on a post? I tried the HTML code ° but that didn't work too well.

i've that on my keyboard :o but if you don't, try to press "alt" and type "248", then release "alt"

Most bulletin boards, including this one, don't allow the use of raw HTML because it's a security risk and users can break the DOM.

 

For symbols, you want the raw ASCII/Unicode symbol in the box (such that when you type it it's displayed).
