What are your thoughts on the state of machine learning and/or neural networks development nowadays? Might be translating the ML glossary in my spare time, I found it got potentials other than the obvious data mining, imo.

I haven't been following that scene like I used to. But given the predictive abilities of ML and data mining have increased at an impressive rate, I think that by 2030, it'll be commonplace in even small shops. Though I do take heed to what some have said about the creation of a digital singularity (ie. Skynet). ML and Quantum Computing may, emphasis on 'may', unleash something humanity did see coming.
The likelihood of that, though as small as it is, isn't for another 2 or 3 decades.

I think you're on to something about the implementation time of it, though my wild guess is it's gonna be in full effect sooner (a decade?), what with the current state of data mining done by the likes of Google and co.
..and the potentials are definitely there, yeah--in a smaller scale, top of my head: government database, e-commerce, counterterrorism (might overlap with with the first one), and neurolinguistic programming and/or machine translation. I hold high hopes for the last, would help with bettering google translate for specific language nuances such as slang, dialects, double meanings, etc.
It's all mindfuck-materials to me, tbh, but I think they're well worth learning in my free time.
