No, completely different. Finnish isn't even a Germanic language, so English and Swedish are closer than Swedish and Finnish are. I just know what it looks like (all "hippitäski monnomanninen hoppalainen kuskkikarvi"-like), which made me google translate.

I don't know precisely why the Finns don't have a Germanic language, but yes - it's completely different. It's part of the Finno-Ugric languages. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finno-Ugric_languages

So yeah, linguistically completely separate from us. Though they still teach Swedish in Finnish schools, which has been a debate over there for quite some time as to whether or not they should abolish it.
