...It's Sanji...since when is he not popping out heart vs pretty girls? It doesn't have anything to do with geisha as a job. He's fawning over Robin's look regardless if it's bikini or geisha or policewoman roleplay LOL

If you just want sex for the sake of it then sure, no skill needed, just instinct...I mean what skill does being a cook even require? If you just want something edible some salt and boiling water for a piece of meat suffice...but actual good sex?

And courtesans are high-class prostitute who don't just fuck. They know how to play musical instruments, dancing and stuffs to entertain, too. Those require skills.

LOL what? When you have powerful men (or women) wrapped around your finger, earning incomes several times that of ''normal'' people's and can even pick your customers etc...? Just like any other profession, it's just a matter of how good you are. A struggling artist living in poverty may paint a bad idea about art profession and make you hesitate to choose that job but one out of 10000 can be Oda or Kubo who earns a shit load of money because, well, they sell. Similarly, sure, some dirt-cheap prostitute for $10/shot in some slumdog area sure is not a desirable life but when you're the most beautiful and sought-after whore in the country and powerful figure want you and PAY for you luxurious life...hahahaha.

I mean rose-tinted glass view on one end and harsh reality on the other exist for nearly everything.

That can be subjective. Some conservative parents look down on perfectly normal jobs if it earns little or not very good for their face and push their children towards careers like doctor, engineer etc. only. The so-called prestige profession. At the same time there are people who support their kids no matter what as long as they don't do something illegal and self-destructive. And as I said, it is also culturally specific. Some countries are overall more open-minded than others, or hell they can be more open-minded in this aspect but not others.

Clearly prostitution or porn star are legal in a lot of places and while they aren't free of danger (drug, rape etc.) but again, it's just a matter of how good you are. Being at the top of your field and you got the say and power to be safe LOL.

At the end of the day like it or not is personal preference but there's literally zero logical and sound argument why being prostitute itself is bad, at least bad enough to make it some evil job one should avoid. All the shitty things about it has more to do with operation and not the idea of providing a service in exchange for money which is the same as a lot of other things in this world, only suddenly if the product is sex it is bad...

You think? I guess I could see that but typically it was when nami and robin (and earlier vivi) would uncover their breasts was when hearts jumped into his eyes.

I don't know how to tell you this..... but... must guys pick hookers based on how they look, not rumors about how well they play the flute
"Hey captain, I know you are exclusively interested in <5ft white girls with large breasts green eyes, blond hair and with a beauty mark near their left eye or left lip, but that 6ft5 small breasted black woman makes really good conversation"

You see how ridiculous that is?

Ya I am sure that's what the girl from the hotel was thinking right before Kareem hunt kicked her.... "got this rich man wrapped around my finger" (that's not the actual story but you get the point right?) The point is you are offering very little compared to what they offer, that rich and powerful man could turn on you as fast as we turn on songs or TV shows that gets boring. Hell the only reason most of us are still reading op is because there are mysteries we want to find out, whereas don't offer those, whereas get full like a song you hear too many times on the radio and better wheres come along.

2 things about this
1 I would rather be the rich and powerful person, not the dude/groupie who hangs around the rich and powerful person, and I think most people agree on that. What you describe is literally aspiring to always leach off the more successful.

2 we wont see this in fantasy op, but in the real world prostitution is a buyer's market. There will always be a better looking one right around the corner. When that 35 year old cant find time to charge you 400$ an hour there is a 22 year old around the corner who is better in nearly every way(less worn out).....except maybe she doesn't sing as well.....

So I think your entire "rich and powerful men wrapped around your finger" analysis is wrong on many levels.

As for the "some jobs are looked down on because they make too little" ya ok maybe that is a little subjective but I think there is one profession that we can all, every one of us, agree that if our 12 year old daughter told us they wanted to do we would all object. There is no way in hell any parent would ever be happy at their young child training to be a whore.

Lol "illegal and self destructive" prostitution is both of those.

Then why the hell do some/a lot of people care about service, hygiene, location, decoration etc. of a restaurant when they can just focus on how the food taste (regardless of whether that comes from some fucked-up chemical or not)?

It's a figure of speech. I didn't mean you can brainwash and 100% control rich men to do what you like...and why selectively looking at only the cases where harm is done? By that logic no one should do any service job ever cause customers are God and rich ones even more so that can ruin you...

Like how literally every service profession in the world does and the owner of such service earns money and become rich and powerful themselves? Yah, you're making a distinction that does not exist when, like I said, it's just a matter of how good you are in the field.

I didn't say it's a forever-fruitful job?

Not me LOL

And yeah, because those parents are also trapped in the confines they are taught.

There's no point talking about parents' being upset without offering why that upset should be justified...

So, a question that's been on my mind... in terms of the whole geisha vs oiran (not sure I spelled it right) thing. Is "memoirs of a geisha" really historically correct? Or is it a matter of mistranslation? Should it be "memoirs of an oiran"?

I'm not sure if I understand the question correctly, but Cnet has this chapter's as Oiran:

Sanji: So the famous Oiran Parade will be coming through here, huh.........?!!
Franky: Oiran? Kamuro?
OldWoman: The "oiran"...!!!

https://mangahelpers.../releases/43973

Sanji calls Robin a Geisha though.

It's probably a case of simply not caring for the base material or producers thinking that the audience wouldn't understand the differences between the terms anyway - given how geisha is a known word in the west, whereas oiran is something completely unheard of.

But yeah, given how the titular character and its job was portrayed in that movie, it really should have been called the latter.

I don't know if Oda is going to get too explicit with the whole geisha or courtesan stuff. Like referring or implying them to be actual prostitutes. He might, but it seems that he wants to show them as being idols and celebrities in the Wano country more than anything right now and the old Japanese terms are used for some flair. Guess we will find out as the arc progresses.

I did wonder if Komurasaki was maybe the sister of Momo that didn't get sent to the future for some reason, but I hope that isn't the case. Since it would be a bit strange for her mom to not send her with her brother only for her to then just become a courtesan and someone Orochi wants to marry. I do wonder if Oda will have Komurasaki's story follow that of the real life person she is based on. Where some lord wanted to marry her and buy her freedom but she was in love with someone else but he died and after the lord bought her freedom she killed herself at her love's grave. The story is a bit similar to the One Piece Gold movie but I wonder if Oda will do something like that were she has some love interest that is trying to save her. It does look like she is the lady in the fox mask that opens up the Acts of Wano though.

As for Orochi we finally get a glimpse of what he looks like. Seems the theories about how he is based on the Orochi in Japanese legends with it being a 8 headed dragon are probably true. I wonder if he has his own devil fruit or one of those weird smile fruits though. Now if Oda follows the story of the Japanese legend I wonder who will play the role of Susanoo (god who slayed Orochi) and the role of Kushinadahime (wife of Susanoo who was saved from Orochi). I did think that maybe Robin was going to play the wife role with her trying to get close to Orochi (I hope Oda follows her story of infiltrating his party some) but it looks like Komurasaki will play that role. No clue about Susanoo. I thought maybe Zoro since he has the legendary Wano sword he got from Ryuma, but I don't know anymore.

I do hope the focus jumps over to Zoro in the next chapter as he is the only one we haven't seen since the start of Act 2. I was a bit surprised that it doesn't look like any of the SHs plan to try and help Luffy escape and maybe Zoro will as he is on his own, but I'd guess that will be left with just Luffy to accomplish on his own with Kidd. Although it does look like maybe Sanji vs Queen is coming up soon if Sanji takes out all of Queen's assassins.
