Seriously... Why isn't there a thread about Minami-ke already?

Anyways, talk about the three ordinary Minami sisters living their ordinary school lives in an extra-ordinary fashion. A slice of life school life comedy...

If you haven't seen Minami-ke; here are two reasons why you should:

Is it good?

Both the first and fourth (current) season are pretty damn good, while the third is alright and the second is utter crap.

Do I have to watch the first 3 seasons to watch the current one?

Is it a must?

Well, while it isn't a must, I'd suggest at least watching the first season before starting on the current one.

So what you're saying is that I can jolly well skip the 2nd & 3rd, hence not really affecting the timeline of events which happens between the first & 4th season?

What about the 2 OVAs? Are they connected canonically as well to make it a must watch as well?

Yeah, pretty much. The third season is still watchable, so if you like Minami-ke you can always just watch that after you've caught up with the fourth season.

No idea. I haven't watched the OVAs myself.

Well, not all the parts of Minami-ke is good. But there are hilarious parts here and there, Hosaka's parts being my favourite.

Do I have to watch the first 3 seasons to watch the current one?

Is it a must?

Not really. As long as you watch the 1st season you'll get a general idea of who is who and what is what. I recommend you to watch the 2nd and 3rd reason if you've got some time though, they do have a few good moments.

When I first watched Minami-ke, only the 3rd reason had finished, the OVA's and the 4th weren't released. I had pretty much given up on any further releases after the 3rd season, I only recently found out there were OVA's and the 4th reason.

I've started re-watching Minami-ke from the 1st season yesterday, skipping the boring parts. and rushing to the 4th season. I suppose that's the most effective way; but if you haven't seen Minami-ke before you might miss a few good moments with this method.

My advice is to watch the 1st season then 4th season. If you like them you might wanna give the OVA's and 3rd season a chance. And maybe 2nd season as well.

According to MAL, the order of Minami-ke anime goes like this:

1st season Minami-ke (13 ep. - canon)

2nd season Minami-ke Okawari (13 ep. - canon)

3rd season Minami-ke Okaeri (13 ep. - canon)

OVA - Minami-ke Betsubara ( 1 ep - non-canon, Valentine's day special OVA)

OVA - Minami-ke Omatase ( 1 ep - OVA - canon)

4th season Minami-ke Tadaima ( 13 ep -  canon -  ongoing 8/13 has been released)

I re-watched everything before the fourth season started and honestly, I enjoyed the first season the least. I still love them all but by the time all characters were introduced and the things I've been waiting for were ready to start, the season had about 2 episodes left. It was great the first time through but when you want the interactions between the entire cast, you have to sit through a lot of introductory stuff that's already basic knowledge to you.

Season 2 is where the show really starts for me and it's my favorite one, too. I just love the overall design and especially the opening. You can tell season three tried really hard to go back to the first season's design and that saddened me. The opening taking every iconic aspect of the original and recycling it was a clear givaway from the start.

Love season 4 just like the rest,
