Well. In Japan, using a first name with a suffix invokes a greater sense of familiarity than a first name alone. :P

:psyduck:

I was under the impression that it was the other way around.

Before you ask, "Since when", let me just say, "for awhile".

Frosty-chan, Plasma-kun. ohayou :)

Depends on the relationship involved, actually, but suffixes are more likely to express amity.

Uh, Frosty's around my age, and a dude.

But if I'm wrong, gomennasai, Frosty-kun.

As far as I recall, the only times it's used with male names is with really small children or something.

Yup, the Japanese don't really give a fuck about distinguishing between mice & rats, so they term them both Nezumi (鼠).

Chan is also used for adults who are considered to be kawaii (cute). For example, Arnold Schwarzenegger gained the nickname Shuwa-chan (シュワちゃん).

Maybe because Arnold's career was established and became internationally popular by being a behemoth-sized man?  :lmao:

It's a hard language, man; especially for Muricans. Tutoring and Rosetta Stone can only do so much.

Pimsleur?

They can be appended to first names, too. :P

Plasma-chan? Wolf is kinda cute, not as much as fox, though
