I finished watching Fate/stay night 2006 (FSN from now on) in addition to Carnival phantasim, and my opinion of the series hasn't changed much, for me Fate/Kaleid still is the best Fate series by far, at first I avoided watching FSN because most people on other forums said that UBW was much better than FSN however I believe the reason why they thought that was mainly due to the far supperior animation quality of UBW, but the thing is since several years ago I never gave a flying fuck about animation quality, after all till this day I still prefer some rather old animes (like Mnemosyne, Devilman lady..I would rate both of them 10/10) over some of the new ones, I thoroughly enjoyed FSN mainly due to the happy end (Illya) and also for the extra screen time that Illya had, I would give FSN 8/10 while UBW is 4/10 purely because in UBW they practically shat on Illya and made her the punching bag of the series, Illya is the sole reason why I even watch the Fate series so if she doesn't get enough screen time and a happy ending then I really wouldn't even bother watching it.
Carnival Phantisam felt like a fanservice anime that doesn't have any comedy or echi scenes, if the point of it was to show the characters in lighthearted moments then it didn't work for me at all, I didn't enjoy it at all that is why I watched it by skipping 2 minutes after watching 10 seconds of it.
If I would compare between Kaleid & FSN while setting aside the extra Illya screen time & the yuri loli fanservice that Kaleid has (in order to avoid being biased towards Kaleid & my absulute love for Yuri loli as much possible), even though Kaleid is the light hearted alternate scenario I would say I actually thought that Kaleid ended up having a better plot than both FSN & UBW, assuming that any of these serieses are the first Fate series that you watched and have absulutly never read/play the source material... the only events in FSN that could be described as being plot twists are when it was revealed that Kotomine was a bad guy and he is Lancer's master, same thing goes for UBW the only plot twists that happened are the revelation about Kotomine and the revelation about Archer being a future Emya, watching the rest of FSN & UBW felt like watching an anime version of the Hollywod movie (the Condemned) it was all just fighting upon fighting and I never really cared about an anime having fighting scenes or not, I dont hate an anime having fighting scenes (or else I would have been watching nothing but slice of life animes) it's just that I don't care that much about it.
in Fate/Kaleid on the other hand we had much more plot twists (spoilers from the manga) frist plot twist was the revelation that Kuro was the original sealed Illya, second plot twist was the revelation that Miyu had another Holly grail and that she came from another paralel universe, third plot twist was the revelation that Erika is Pandora and that the reason why her world is being destroyed is because she didn't open the box, ofcourse I avoided mentioning minor plot twists in FSN UBW and Kalied.
