wow, dungeon meshi reached 400k with the 4th volume, happy to see it's going well

400k isn't it more impressive since it's a monthly manga? or other monthly mangas can reach that volume as often as weekly ones?

It doesn't really matter whether it is monthly or weekly. As long as it is good, it'll have good tank sale.

Why do you think that's a factor in sales? I can understand total yearly sales since monthly series usually have fewer volumes but sales per volume?

Why do you think that's a factor in sales? I can understand total yearly sales since monthly series usually have fewer volumes but sales per volume?

i was assuming that monthly series volumes release with a different pace than weekly series,

if the volumes did release with different paces, with monthly series releasing volumes slower than weekly series, i was assuming that the sales for a monthly serie could be slower than a weekly one, since the first total sales for monthly series could span over the longer release frame,

so having Dungeon Meshi reach 400k over only 2 weeks looked comparable with other major weekly series, which felt odd

but i didn't follow the sales before, so i don't know if Dungeon Meshi's total sales for the previous volumes were way higher than 400k

but just realized it isn't always the case, since weekly series like one piece have usually around 12-13 chapters each volume, while monthly series have around 6-7 chapters each volume, so the volumes for both release with around the same pace

so using my previous reasoning, there is no reason for them to have different numbers of sales over the same timeframe, if they release with roughly the same pace

an other reason was the assumption weekly series are easier to be picked up from new readers, the ones picking up a manga from their cover when they buy the physical volume in a newsstand, since with more frequent volume release, weekly series would have more chances to attract attention

but this is all very relative and subjective, just an impression

and negative already confirmed there isn't a visible difference in sales between the two different chapter release rates

I don't understand this line. The amount of time between the releases of the volumes of a monthly series is sure longer but that doesn't mean it has to sell slower to span out in that period.

Isn't what attractive about manga cover how well-drawn/pretty it is rather than how many there are?

"Isn't what attractive about manga cover how well-drawn/pretty it is rather than how many there are?"

sure it is, but there may be also other factors in it, like how many chances there are to actually see that cover

the more times a good cover is seen, the more chances there are someone will eventually like it so much to pick it up

that's what i would assume at least

to make an example:

take two different mangas with equally attractive cover art, manga A and manga B,

manga A releases volumes every month, manga B releases volumes every two months

manga A and manga B have their first volume released at the same time, they are both newly released, and they both stand out among the other covers released before by other series

one month passes, and manga A has a new volume out, with a new equally attractive cover, manga B has still only one volume out with the same cover seen one month before

over the span of two months, manga A had two chances to attract attention with an attractive cover, manga B only had one chance
