Yeah, I'll just let it run a bit longer. Do you think we should maybe expand the theme to include "Japan" in general? Manga/Anime is not the most accessable topic for a poem.

Deadline extended for now until the 5th of May.

Shouldn't include "Japan" in general, it's kinda unfair for those that already participated.

Well they could always put in another piece of work if they felt more comfortable with a wider topic :3 I'd rather do that than squash something into a limited theme.

That being said I got nothing as my consumption of Japanese related material isn't what it use to be.

To be fair you would probably get away with turning in something related to Japan under the Anime/Manga theme, since most anime are set in different japanese settings anyway.. xP

But that would of course be wrong as a poet! just look at my entry under the pumpkin theme

I'm sorry that I've been MIA. I forgot about this forum because I was hanging out on the Nanowrimo one that is really super active! I like this prompt, though. Since the deadline has been extended and I have a few days to enter something, I will definitely make it a point to return here and drop off a poem!

Well, restrictions are making the challenge of creating a poems from the suggested theme and ensure somehow people doesn't have a poem they already worked on.

Perhaps instead of simply 1 topic, the winner could choose 1-3 topics that are loosely related and contestants can choose between 1 of the 3.

Most of our topics are already really losely defined, and that is reflected in the entries. This one was somewhat an exception, but if the topic is something like "Dream" or "Fantasy", there's already tons of different ways to approach it.

Not really that loose on the "dream" or "fantasy", since If you want to approach the "dream" theme, sure ppl have various dreams or goals, but in the end you will mostly be speaking of something that you want instead of something you have.

Dream as in sleeping can be interpreted as something that is missing, like the death of a related family or friends, love. or it either goes about being promoted with something you don't really have, like the dream (goals) it is something you wish you could have, something you are aiming for.

That's my POV on this, but others may see it differently tho.

I do agree with Oben, our themes are usually open enough as it is. It can also be hard picking one theme so we lose substance as people just pick themes.

Yes and no. I myself see art as more free form than structured. Giving a theme just helps channel the work in a general direction to help everyone have an even footing when it comes to judgimg. However too specific a theme and people start to struggle and this shows a few times over the various rounds.

As for entering a piece you've already worked on that's 100% inside the framework of the rules as long as its never been published or entered into a contest before. In fact its probably a good idea since people might never see the work otherwise.

I'd poke @Oben specifically. If the contest is going to die we might as well end the round and go on hiatus.

Oh damn, I missed this, sorry. I have Grimmjagger on my ignore list, so I didn't see his post (I'll still take your poem, no worries). I'll close it this evening.
