Oda, you disappoint.

You made an OP enemy character and you painted yourself into a corner.

Forget Big Mom, forget Zeus, forget the whole motley fucking crew of that failure of a Yonkou.

Except Katakuri.

I dare anyone in this forum to prove me wrong:

Minus Katakuri's carelessness of letting Luffy live and munching donuts without checking for sure that his opponent is dead, minus his forced chivalrous self-stabbing, minus his throwing away so easily of his lil sis's effort of weakening luffy just like that and proceed to go on a manly slugfest until he wears himself out; who do you think the victor of the battle be?

He's a fucking pirate, ffs--a top commander of a Yonkou at that. Even the MC himself is not above ganking his enemies and outsmarting them with all the dirty tricks available.

Either Oda utterly sucks at writing Katakuri, or the latter is the paragon of manliness, if also a totally incompetent pirate.

Granted Oda isn't a 'Perfect Storyteller' but sometimes one can tell if the screw ups are from the Mangaka or the Publishing Editors.

1st let me start with this. Instead of thinking that katakuri let luffy stand up every time and that in the end he let him live. Think that he tried to have luffy stay down multiple times but luffy would always rise. He let luffy live, how about luffy survived or dodged every single attack he threw at luffy. I see people saying that he should have used his trident more in the fight but the one time he hit luffy was with flambes help. I see people saying he let luffy live but what proof do you have. Oda made it very vague and so we kind of have to assume and yet you lean towards one end without taking anything into account other than what you want. I try to be unbiased and so I assume both. On one side katakuri stabbed himself, whether it was pity, honor, pride or arrogance I don't know but this gave luffy a fighting chance again, katakuri also let luffy transform into G4 at the end, even though he knew the power of destruction it gave to luffy(maybe he could't stop luffy since this time he was further away than he was in the fist transformation). Ont the other side we have luffy will to keep standing up, he new levels of endurance and durability. For the first time he stayed physically functional after running out of G4, he showed mastery on all 3 known fields of CoO (emotions, voices and auras) and he used every so often FSCoO. Ultimately he was weaker but he never stopped.
Just don't forget that: "Water dripping day by day wears the hardest rock away".

2nd Even though I love the topic and here in OMF most of the discussions tend to be around power levels and who beats who. You can't forget this manga strong factor is not fights at least not for me. For me it is hype, reactions and bad*ss moments. I want to see the world reaction when they find out that luffy allied with cabone and with only half of his crew tried to assassinate BM. I want to see the reaction of people knowing that luffy failed but in the process destroyed BM castle and defeated 2 of her strongest warriors.
Went I look back I don't care much about the fights or if they were fair or unfair, all I care is the before or the after. Before fights moments that gave me chills were the walk to arlong park, the walk to frankys house and luffy stopping DD attack with his foot. After fights moments that were also insanely cool were luffy ringing the golden bell and as always the reaction of the world and the new bounties. Even the between fight scenes are awesome, remember ussopp encouragement speech that made luffy stand up one more time against lucci. Yeah this is the real one piece.

Another example is the amount of people that are more excited for the reverie than they are for wano.
And the ultimate example is the number of fans Sanji has. If this was indeed a fighting centered manga then Sanji would have no fans.

Perfect?! Good lord that is was too much credit, i think, it is honest to god debatable if oda should even be considered a "good" story teller.

There are plenty of things he is good at, hype, world building.....thats about it....

But there are just as many things he sucks at. Drawling proper ceorgraphy for fights, drawling enough fights...

And if you look at oda's work, it all follows the same basic pattern, oda has really never broke the mould for his standard arc. Even down to the "flashback to make fans cry" since he is out of SH now he has to use villains....did anyone get sad for bm or dd? No one? Weird... at some points in OP i really have to look at two arc and think to my self, "didnt i read this already?" I mean dr was alabatsa. I can see oda sitting there going like "man alabasta was so much fun, but i think the fans would really like to see what would of happened if crocodile succeded, i will show them that later"

And secondly, look at the length of his manga, is 1000 chapters really the sign of a good story teller? If a professor sets a page maxium and you go over it by 10 they wont be sitting in awe of your writing ability.

I would love for Oda and Kubo to do a collaboration manga.

Kubo is in my opinion one of the bests mangakas at designing characters. I do criticise bleach a lot but most if not all characters have a terrific design. Normally people make their favorite character the one with the best design, well kubo made this super difficult. Shinigamis, visards, arrancars, sternritters compose most of my top 10 of characters design in general manga.

Oda on the other end has the best background in terms of originality. Sky islands is 10000 meters in the air, fishman island was inside a bubble 10000 meters under water, desert island, winter island, punk hazard was a half frozen half burned, dressrosa was a mix of italian and spanish architecture, zou was on top of a giant elephant, totto land has each island of the archipelago have a different food theme, Saobodi was on top of roots, long ring long land was original and the island ussop visite during the timeskip was a carnivorous plant.

My point is that with top character and environment design they could complement some of each other flaws.
Make it happen a kubo and oda collaboration.

You need Arakawa or Inoue or Togashi to supervise these two guys if you want it to actually work. Good thing is Togashi wouldn't have to draw himself so we don't have hiatus.

Haven't seen any work from Inoue. I know he does vagabond and did slam dunk. Do you recommend?

I don't think the drawing is what causes he hiatus because I don't believe the drawings are being made by togashi at all. Pre kimera ant arc the art work was one of the worst I ever seen. For so long I wanted to get in and read it but I just couldn't. I had to watch the anime just so I could get ahead of that horrible drawings. Mysteriously the arc now is amazing. The way HxH is consistent with great quality, lack of plot holes, no bpring chapters and incredible pace in a complex story is the reason the hiatus take place.

But yeah supervision by togashi would be amazing.

Ok here it is the oda/kubo collaboration.

Spoiler

Shit that got out of control. Well that was a very long story about how much each of the 4 big authors styles clash in key aspects.

Same art...now Togashi starts to draw noses funnily though.

Then that's what Togashi would have said because it's actually possible but he didn't. So it's his health. Of course it can be that he found a portal gate to wonderland and spends most of his times there.

@captain kidd too much credit LOL

Hahaha ya i was having qay too much fun with that.
Key points
-kubo's characters all have realistic body types not oda's 20foot tall 2000 lb humans.
Kubo makes all his villains too over powered
-hiro's manga style is centered around fan service
-kishi doesnt know what boobs are
-kubo and hiro dont know how to end a manga

@Abaroxa

Slam Dunk is a MUST. Its very well written, paced, efficient, funny, well drawn, outstanding choreography, and lovable characters. I think Inoue is even better at drawing action than Toriyama. The art at the end of the series is breathtaking. Its possibly the best shonen manga I have ever read.

Vagabond is more serious and sentimental. It definitely has  some of best samurai fights  you will see in your life.It has parts were its epic and others where its not as fun to watch. However, the art is literally porn...
