There may not have been translated coloured chapters in a while, but the black and white editions are still around from Ch 148 to 152

Just watched Episode 1, consisting of just Ch 1. It was PERFECT

Artwork, animation and music I was confident of, but even my biggest worry (Natsuki Hanae's casting as Tanjirou) was put to rest. I loved it.

26 episodes have been slated (uncertain if single run or split cour), and the first 5 cover to the aftermath of the Final Selection arc (to stellar reception from what I gleaned). Add to the stuff teased in the OP, things will end either at the Recovery Training arc or the Infinity Express arc.

Pacing is going to be a huge question on how good it'll be. Please be good, I want Kaguya-tier good.

The first episode was just beautiful. Top notch quality. I’m expecting great things from this ones. The reception in the west, from what I saw, has been amazing. People on all forms of social media loving the first episode.

The coloured versions of Ch 148 to 156 are now up on the web:

https://mangadex.org/chapter/599403

Akaza fight has been great, though it would've been nice for it to go a bit longer.

---

In other news, Episode 4 depicts the Final Selection. Breath of Water is absolutely stunning, such a good adaptation so far

But the real proving grounds will be Episode 6 to 9, to see how Ufotable will handle the awkward pacing of the original chapters

Watched Episode 6, which covers Tanjirou's first mission

While this episode is arguably slow, covering 2 out of 4 chapters spent on the mission, I liked how it's handle

We got a proper goodbye with Urokodaki, more details in the scenario for depicting the modernising Taisho vibe, more suspense horror with the demon hunting its prey and expositions are better ordered. Specifically, I liked how it fleshed out things that've been glossed over, since this was around the time when Gotouge-sensei had to rush a few things to minimise risk of axing.

Plus, it would personally irk me for his first mission to come across as some kind of one and done deal were it to all be over in one episode.

Tanjirou and Nezuko are still awesome though.

Ch 157 and 159 now in colour

https://mangadex.org/chapter/611385

Breath of Flowers looks gorgeous in colour

Doubt Douma will fall easily

---

Episode 7 and 8's depiction of Taisho era Asakusa looked amazing and atmospheric

The gag faces are slowly seeping into the Anime too, and in spite of the more structured art style here, they don't break the mood at all

Also, Natsuki Hanae has been great so far as Tanjirou, selling him on all his appeal, from courageous to intellectual to gentle to astonishment

Coloured chapters now up to 162

https://mangadex.org/chapter/642284/1

The latest chapter reminds me of Gash Bell and the intense finishers of its fights with the final desperate attacks

---

Episode 11 has at last brought in Zenitsu and Inosuke to the fore. Eager to see their Breaths animated

Cour 1 is set to end off with the Drum House arc, predictably.

Chapter 163 Coloured

https://mangadex.org/chapter/646241/1

And thus, Douma has been vanquished. While I would've liked to have an arc solely dedicated to defeating him, this victory is still well-deserved.

Douma certainly lives up to being Upper Moon Two. His stamina seemed limitless, and his ice attacks are wide-ranged and can disable Breath users, and can even create multiple clones that fight just as well as he does.

His one mistake in this battle is that he toyed with his opponents for far too long. Had he taken it more seriously, the battle would've ended early.

Shinobu managed to get the last laugh. I like her idea of ingesting poison for a whole year for this very day, and that she collaborated with Tamayo in the few months they met in order to make it even more lethal.

I really would've liked to see this happen on screen.

Rest in peace.

I liked that Kanao and Inosuke got their fair share of development. In particular, I appreciated the spotlight on Kanao's growing character and her fancy fighting style. Seriously, Breath of Flowers looked awesome in colour.

Pity that she's close to blind in one eye. Fortunately, it's just one eye, since it would be a real shame for her to completely lose her super sense.

---

Episode 12 had aired. Ufotable's Breath of Lightning looked absolutely amazing, between the yellow-green lightning dash, the residue arching electricity after the slash, and the final flash of light before the sword completely sheathes. A complete upgrade from the manga

Ch 164 and 165 now coloured

https://mangadex.org/chapter/655941

As expected, Nakime's powers are absolutely prankster-like, what with dimensional powers inside the Infinity Fortress

Things are not boding well for Tokitou

---

Episode 13 was stretched to oblivion, it's terrible

Episode 14, while also stretched, works better because it's a downtime moment. Tanjirou vs Inosuke got a complete upgrade, and Zenitsu's first sight of Nezuko is absolute gold

Coloured Chapters now up to 169

https://mangadex.org/chapter/661113

Kokushibou does not disappoint. The notion of "Breath of the Moon" had been hypothesised before, but to see it actually be a thing sure is something.

Sanemi's weapon master style of fighting is cool, and it's also neat to see that Rare Blood is still a thing

Himejima's style is so cool, though the Breath of Rock effects are sadly more subtle than the other Breaths

I don't know if I want Kokushibou to fall here though. I can see them perhaps taking his head once, but then he regenerates it

---

The Anime is now in the Mt Natagumo arc, and it's been pretty good. Zenitsu's Breath of Lightning is still wonderfully animated

Next week should be both Tanjirou's Dance of the Fire God and Nezuko's Blazing Blood

Before today's episode aired, Crocodile-sensei herself said in a statement on Twitter that its animation, direction, music and everything is on point. She watched it 20 times and had tears in her eyes, and even during work she didn't want her assistants to notice that she was crying.

She was not lying. Episode 19 is utterly EXQUISITE. It is everything I imagined it to be and more

  • Extra movements for both Dragon of Change and the Waltz
  • The transition from Breath of Water to Dance of the Fire God
  • Rui's blood-coloured threads
  • Nezuko's Exploding Blood being crimson-coloured fire
  • The mixed-coloured hue of the final blow
  • Extra drawings for the Kamado family moments from the manga
  • And of course the dedicated Song of Kamado Tanjirou

We are blessed to have Ufotable to grace us with their talent and this marvelous adaptation. I am hyped for Tomioka's Lull and Shinobu's Dance of the Butterfly next week, even if they won't be as hype

I just read this series (caught up in about 5 days) and I really enjoy it. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it.

Badass of the moment:

Daytime Escanor

Praise. The. Sun. See, if Chuck Norris had a love child with Bruce Lee and that child was trained by the Spartans it just MIGHT have the absurd levels of badass testosterone found in Escanor's left testicle. Escanor is the epitome of pride and badassery and he has no issues with letting it be known. His mere presence has been enough to end some powerful baddies, and he will make sure any fool willing to challenge him knows how pathetic their feeble attempts are. OP is an understatement and he wears it so gracefully.

Well Kimetsu is a strange case. Similar to Sket Dance and Kuroko no Basket, when the series debuted it was in the bottom 5, and just like them, it was one of the few that outright survived the bottom 5 and eventually ascended to the top half.

Because of this, it's just not ripe for discussion. It's popularity only exploded with the Anime, just like Kuroko and Saiki actually

---

Story is now up to Ch 174

https://mangadex.org/chapter/708966

The battle against Kokushibou has been pretty cool so far. Rare blood, Marks, See-Through World, Genya's Half-Demon mode, everyone is just throwing everything at him.

True, Kokushibou is restrained, but he's still only barely tapped into his Demon powers (regeneration and weapon shifting). I hesitate to think that he's going to die just yet.

We still haven't seen his Blood Demon Art, we still haven't seen the moment when he became a Demon, and most importantly, he hasn't met Tanjirou yet.

I still think that the fighters here will probably succeed in taking his head (if only to show that together they can reach the heights of Yoriichi), but he'll regenerate.

---

This chapter though, wow. Yoriichi "Sunbro" Tsugikuni is ridiculous. It was fairly guessable that he was the one who was Marked and lived beyond 25, but 80 years old and can still fight in prime condition? Him being his younger (twin) brother just rubs salt to the wound, which is especially bad in the Sengoku Era.

Worst, if Kokushibou was still human, he would've lost already. He's only alive because he's a Demon.

It's an interesting contrast to the Shinazugawa brothers: Sanemi just wanted Genya to be safe, even if he's hated forever

Even more so for the Tokitou twin brothers: Muichirou's brother also recognised him as a "chosen one" unlike him, but with his dying breath, he instead wishes for his younger brother to be spared

On another note, does this mean that Genya can store Blood Demon Arts? That so long as he is "charged" enough, he can use Arts from his past consumption? If so, he just became even more of a Blue Mage, that's cool.

---

Anime is now up to Ep 24, going to end on their first stay at the Butterfly Estate.

The Pillars have been wonderfully casted, with Shinobu and Sanemi being stand-outs thus far.

I was wondering how the Rehabilitation Training will be adapted, and it hits most marks, what with Inosuke's depression and the 3 little dot-eyed girls. A shame that Nezuko's "lacks sleep!" wasn't used for comedy though (and instead for tenderness)

And of course, Tanjirou's portrayal continues to be amazing

Next week is going to feature Kanao's side story, which is awesome

Season 2 is practically a certainty at this point

Chapter 175 coloured:

https://mangadex.org/chapter/714172/1

Sheesh, Gotouge-sensei is so rough with Muiichirou. He was set to die after this battle, but this is so brutal.

Cool to see the red blade phenomena in action, without Nezuko's hack this time. Hope we get a decent explanation on this.

Kokushibou's reaction though, does this mean that Yoriichi was the only one in the beginning who could achieve that state?

Confirmation that Genya can store Blood Demon Arts, that is cool

Seeing him this chapter, I'm inclined to think of two things:

  1. Back in the Blacksmith Village arc, his thoughts were that he couldn't regenerate his head, which I took as a sign that getting attack in the head means death. Yet here we are, Genya got sliced in half and he's still conscious.
Is this because consuming Kokushibou's flesh granted him enough strength to regenerate even his head? If that's the case, doesn't this mean that Kokushibou himself might just have enough strength to also survive having his head sliced off?
  2. Genya is not a true Demon, but can use Blood Demon Arts. It lends credence to a pet theory of mine.
Right now, Nezuko had taken Tamayo's cure and is in the process of turning back to human, or hoping to at least. Yet, it would bug me if Nezuko has no participation in whatever the final showdown will be.
And that's why I thought, if the current Infinity Fortress arc isn't the finale, then perhaps we won't get Human Nezuko. Instead, the cure will help fix whatever had occupied her mind's higher functions' attention, meaning that we'll have a semi-Demon Nezuko with her actual teenage mind and retains access to her Blood Demon Art, who will be present for the final battle.

But even if Kokushibou doesn't die from this and sunlight is the only way to kill him, it wouldn't invalidate the fighters this time around. The 4 fighters this time are already super strong just for cutting off his head

---

Episode 25 is fun. Kanao's backstory and Tanjirou's cup-on-head did not disappoint.

It did bother me that there was a prime moment to patch in the "couldn't get Lower Moon 5's blood" regret line that was skipped over last episode, but didn't take it

While I did surmise some time ago that Season 1 will not go into the Infinity Express arc (out of sheer budget and pacing concerns), I did wonder if they were seriously going to stop at the Butterfly Estate and its total downtime mood. And now we have a teaser for Infinity Express.

I bet that we're shown is actually an extension to Rengoku's investigation, prior to meeting Tanjirou's group. And the purpose of showing this Demon, which was originally just an illusion at the start of Enmu's dream, is to make Anime-onlys go "wait, didn't he kill this Demon already?" during Season 2's debut.

And then the season will end with Tanjirou saying his thanks and goodbye to the Butterfly Estate girls, and then the group set out on a journey to meet Rengoku to get answers about the Dance of the Fire God.

What I am curious though is whether the Lower Moon meeting will happen this season or next, if only out of budgetary concerns for depicting the Infinity Fortress and not getting as much mileage out of Enmu's seiyuu.

But if Ufotable have enough money, then by all means please include the meeting in Ep 26.
