It's a new year and new season with new anime to watch and thus we have a new thread.
What is everybody watching this season?

Nothing really interests me this season.  I might try out Darling in the Franxx just because mecha, but otherwise...

Other than the shows continuing from last season I've tried the first episodes of the following...

A Place Further Than the Universe
School Babysitters
Laid Back Camp
Koizumi Loves Ramen
Katana Maidens
Record of Grandcrest War
Citrus
Kokkoku
Takagi-san: Master of Teasing
Maerchen Maedchen
Killing Bites
Dame x Prince
Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
After the Rain
Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody

I can't tell yet which ones I'm going to follow through the end of the season but most of them are decent for the most part.

You need to watch Darling in the Franxx and Violet Evergarden (If you have Netflix then it'll be even better for you)

But as usual, I'm watching almost everything

Is Violet Evergarden better than it sounds, because it sounds bad?  I know that there was hype surrounding it, but...

I watched the first episode already (on netflix Germany) and I quite liked it. It is really great animated, good visuals and is something for the feelings ^^ (and a bit funny)

I am confused as to why do I enjoy Overlord so much. Whether I enjoy it or not is not in question, I mean-- I like it a lot. What I want to know is why. I remember I liked the first season because the villain pretty much carried the better part of the show, but I have no clue about this one. I guess I'm a sucker for... diplomacy porn? Is that a thing? I'm using it.

I tried Violet Evergarden. The idea of robots learning about feelings has been done to death-- in fact, I like it more when they remain objective psychopaths with a purpose. It could still be amusing, I guess. I wasn't really sold but it's too early to tell. It's definitely impossible to complain about the visuals, I'll say that much.

This season doesn't seem to have anything as amazing as some of the shows we got last winter but a lot of shows that are decent enough to be watchable. A Place Further Than the Universe is my early season favorite due to the chemistry of the main cast, it's easy to see why she mistook them for best friends even though they just met.

Also am I the only person that gets tempted to go to a ramen bar every episode I watch of Koizumi-San?

Yeah I think A Place Further Than the Universe is probably my favorite as well for the same reason. Darling the FranXX and Dame x Prince are probably my biggest surprises in terms of shows I didn't expect to enjoy, because I usually don't like either of those genres. It probably helps that the latter is just a parody of otome games instead since I usually find those shows boring.

I've gotten more than tempted I've actually gone twice from the first two episodes (Momofuku and Naruto Ramen). I haven't seen episode three yet but I already have plans to go to Totto either later today or tomorrow...You should come too as a matter of fact. :aww:

I'll pass on that, I don't feel like going all the way to Manhattan no matter what cravings I have.

BTW when is Kakegurui supposed to come out? Did the release get delayed?

But it's sooo delicious...

Besides it doesn't just have to be for food, Kobe and Kansas haven't seen each other in almost a month so there's that.

It was originally thought that it would come out after it finished airing in Japan like Little Witch Academia did but it got pushed all the way back to early 2018 but I don't know if a specific date has been announced  . I'm more curious about what happened to Arifureta, it was supposed to come out next season but got pushed back to 2019.

I'd put Franxx and Violet Evergarden up there with the best of last year so far save for Rakugo but if I count Devilman Crybaby, then that show is right up there with Rakugo

Well even though I gave Rakugo a 10/10 last year it wasn't even the best of that season for me as I still had Scum's Wish ahead of it and it's pretty rare for me to give 10's at all let alone two in one season. Of the shows I've watched this season the best to me are Ancient Magus Bride, Darling in the Franxx, and A Place Further Than the Universe and they're all about an 8/10.

I can't comment on two of the shows you mentioned as I haven't seen Devilman yet and I've never heard of Violet Evergarden (where is that even streaming at). I'll check them out when I get more free time so I hope they live up to the high bar you're setting.

Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
I like this a lot more than I would've thought based off the first episode. I think having different overlapping arcs works more in this show's favor than a single long one would have and it reminds me somewhat of a Narita show which is a good thing. Lin x Bamba is also one of my favorite ships from this season.

Takagi-san: Master of Teasing
There's not much for me to say that I haven't already said while reading the original manga and the sequel series. I love the chemistry between these two as well as the fact that Takagi's teasing is born from affection and never crosses the line into being mean-spirited. I hope we get at least one episode of the future because I want to see Chi-chan.

A Place Further Than the Universe
Seriously why is the show so good? I'm two episodes behind on Ancient Magus Bride (and I haven't touched the Netflix shows yet) so I don't want to say it's the AOTS yet but it's the strongest contender among the shows I've watched.

Boruto
I liked it when it started but I'm just glad that this Byakuya gang arc is over because it ended up being by far the weakest of the series for me. I did love Naruto appearing on the train tracks at the end...
The next couple of episodes look like they'll be self contained ones which I kind of like because they'll focus on the other teams that need spotlight but I also know that the singular episodes tend to not be as good due to not having proper time to develop their story.

Laid Back Camp
As much as I love camping in the summer, doing it in the winter definitely has it's own charm and I feel like this show accurately captures that which explains why I'm enjoying it so much. I also like all the characters in the show but I love Rin and Nadeshiko especially.

Koizumi Loves Ramen
As a show this isn't doing much for me but it is getting me to try a lot of different  types of ramen in New York which I've really enjoyed.
@Candles We should go out to eat again...

After the Rain
This show is really good despite the fact that I don't love the Akira x Kondo pairing. The animation is gorgeous (especially during that Supermoon last episode) and the character writing is really strong throughout.

Record of Grandcrest War
I don't care about anything else going on in the show right now, my ship has finally sailed and I'm happy about it. :party2:

Both are on Netflix

@Candles
Tokoya is half right here, Violet Evergarden is a Netflix show but it's only available in certain countries at the moment so you won't be able to watch it yet regardless. Devilman is on there already though.

Yeah I knew Devilman was on Netflix already, I had meant to watch it but just haven't had the time. I was only talking about the other show because I looked on all the streaming sites and didn't see it anywhere. I'll get to it in Spring or whenever it comes out, I tend to not count the Netflix shows as part of the anime season anyway because of the way they're released.

Did you drop all other shows or is that just the stuff you're caught up on?

I actually haven't gotten to them myself, in fact I'm so behind on my Netflix shows it's terrifying...Marvel has a whole television universe I haven't even started on. I doesn't help that I don't know where to start.

Both. Some shows I didn't mention like Citrus, Juni Ito Collection, and Katana Maidens I just haven't caught up on but others I did indeed drop from my watch list.
