Not sure yet. I was surprised last week to discover we were about to be on vacation, and I was so tired that I was totally unable to think of what to do. For Christmas, I went in Italy, in my boyfriend's family --that was awesome, and in February, I spent my time studying.... this time, I don't know, we'll go to the sea for a day at least, and I'll pay a visit to my parents too.
I don't know if Celsius mean anything to you, but it was over 25°C yesterday! Unexpected I must say.

Yep, I'm teaching ^^ French/Literature. As for how it works: since I'm a young teacher who's not married and who doesn't have children, I have little points. To get a definitive post, you need lots of points or lots of luck. I had neither, so they put me where they need me. That's why I've been changing cities every year so far. In those two schools I am, there was half a post, so with the two of them, it gives me a whole one. Fantastic.

François Fillon, normal right wing, has been in a turmoil because of his wife: he gave her a fake job when he was a minister, so people don't trust him anymore. And he's a bit too Christian and traditionalist (about abortion for example).
Emmanuel Macron is... the spiritual son of François Hollande who wants everyone to believe he will bring change. His program is not very coherent --or wasn't when I last checked since it seems he improved it.
Benoît Hamon is a young one without any experience who killed himself (figuratively) when he made the idea of a base salary for everyone his main objective. Imagine: you don't work, but you receive money anyway. It's already hell with people living off from state helps...
Jean-Luc Mélenchon, radical Left, is an idealist and an orator. He appeals a lot to my generation actually because he has the shoulders and the manners of a president. But again, an idealist.
Nothing is sure for now honestly, but whoever is elected (apart from Fillon probably, but his chances are not so high) won't have his majority for the Legislative elections anyway. Which means that I care more for the Legislatives than the Presidential elections ^^

It's been a while! Several old mods were too busy, so Greg had to find people to replace them, and since they didn't have an European mod yet... ^^
As for OMF itself, it's surviving. Its glorious days are long gone, there's not as much activity, but we try our best to stay alive :)

Thank you ^^ And yeah, commodities are certainly easier to explain to your grandmother at dinner (considering everything we use is fueled by one at some point!). The research position was part journalism and part analytical work. The journalism part stems from the fact your job is to provide a view of where the market is in terms of production, demand, and other news affecting said commodity, like, what is the OPEC going to do with oil production? or, are Libyan oil fields going to stop for some civil war reasons? On the flip side there is the need to forecast parts of the supply/demand picture, and that involves a lot of thinking of assumptions and getting what precious limited and expensive data we can to build up views. Combine that, and you have reports we sell to companies who give a shit about the future of sugar prices, for example, whether because you're Nestle or some smug hedge fund.
The algorithmic trading position is more about fine tuning, maintaining these programs that pension funds, hedge funds, and other institutions use to trade electronically. It's a bit of game theory, statistics, and it's a lot more data intensive (and also harder to be intuitive about). In a sense both are research-y since both are fundamentally about answering questions that are not easy to answer (and sometimes not possible!), but the latter is much more a numbers game. I'm more partial to numbers, but that's for now, and I definitely enjoyed reading up oil/gas related events! (That, and I learned and gained an appreciation for how my coffee is grown :D ).

No side research for you? I've been trying to pick up stuff on the side, but I can imagine for you it's hard just to catch a breath and relax as it is. How do you find the teaching experience overall?

Yeah that's me too. I've watched many series with my wife but purely because she motivates me to do it (and the stories are pretty good as well!), but I ain't about that self motivation when it comes to shows lol

Well, I'm not sure "interesting" is the word, but it allows married couples with children to remain close to one another, and that's quite important. I don't like this nomadic life much because it means that I can't settle for a real couple life, which is annoying as hell. As for where to settle, eh, I love the North of France because of its people, because my friends are there, but I think I'd like to try near the Alps (obviously, it's closer to Italy), because the scenery is astonishing ^^.
Lastly, no, being in two schools is not worth it at all. It makes me drive up to 1:30 a day, and it's just useless and tiresome.

It is a tight race, as things are now, most French people have no idea who to vote for, and I'm pretty sure the abstention will be quite high again...
As for the Legislatives, I'm not sure what you mean about polarizing. Basically, when you vote for deputies, you vote for their party, and the party with the majority should compose the government (so that the Prime Minister always has the majority in the National Assembly).

You know what? You managed to make it sound super interesting even though it's not my area of predilection at all! Research is kind of exciting, and it must be nice to have your theories proven right too. Instead of "good luck" I feel like saying "Have fun!" ^^ though it must be quite straining for the mind.

Nah, no time for research. This year, I've tried another teacher examination, to teach in upper levels (more chances for both high schools and universities), but I had only two weeks to prepare it because with all the work I have and the time I want for my boyfriend, it's hard to find time for studying... especially at such a high level.
As for teaching itself, I love it. I'm tired beyond recovery for now, but I'll manage! It's incredible how much energy we can spend to keep the attention of 27 persons, especially children who mostly don't care one bit xD. This week, I'm on break, and last Friday, when I came back home, it was quite funny: I was super glad because everything went well, and then, half an hour after, I started acting like a zombie and went to sleep. It was 5 pm. (I finish at 4 pm on Fridays). On Saturday, even though I got up late, I also went back to sleep in the morning. It's madness!
But when you see some spark of understanding in your students's eyes, especially the not so good ones, it's totally worth the tiredness!
